true grit

my dad is a cowboy. like a trains horses for rodeos cowboy. we don't have much in common. i don't like rodeos and he doesn't understand why i love jack white. but every now and then, we find common ground. for example, we both love george strait, alan jackson, and johnny cash. and a few months ago he bought this really badass vintage cowboy hat. i was SO proud of him! another thing we both agree on is how awesome the movie 'true grit' is.

my dad will watch this movie every.single.time. it comes on tv. he introduced me to it when i was little and it will always make me think of him. if you never seen 'true grit', it's an old john wayne movie with robert duvall. that's probably why he loves it so much. his two favs in one movie :)
but i mean let's face facts here. john wayne IS a badass and a legend and daddy and i could probably recite every line from this movie. i even had a cat once that we named after john wayne's cat in the movie. yeah, we love it. here is the trailer for the original. it's r-e-a-l-l-y old so bare with it.




the other day, when lauren and i went to the movies, as we were walking into the theater, i saw a poster for a remake. it stopped me dead in my tracks.

oh my word. this movie looks SO good and i cannot wait for it to come out. maybe it's something that my dad and i can go see together :)

a 2505 homecoming.

jenny came in town last weekend. finally! and she just happened to plan on coming up during tech's homecoming so the timing couldn't have been better. we got up early saturday and first went to target to pick up a few things. we were walking down one of the aisles and a woman said "ya'll look so good! and that probably won't be the first time you hear that today". that pretty much made our day. :)))))

then we headed over to ruston and spent most of the day tailgating and then we moved our party to dawg house for fried pickles.

lately i've been coming across alot of things that i love. these are those things:

brand spankin' new fragrance released just last month....every time i walk past the fragrance counter, i stop and spray a bit on my wrist...it's only a matter of time before i actually break down and by a bottle. this stuff smells absolutely divine.

friday night lights.
my new obsession...the show is spectacular. and i REALLY love this promo for last season for two reasons, it's beautifully done and i love the feel of it. and secondly, they used tony lucca's cover of devil town by daniel johnston. it's suuuuch a good song. whoever is in charge of the music for fnl knows exactly what they're doing.

weeeeeezyyyyy! his latest. alot of people dont' like this song but i love it. i like lil wayne because he ventures out away from hip hop and rap. he's kind of a rockstar and i love that. this video is so sick.


lately, i've been really into alot more electronic music than i normally listen to...in the past i've only listened to bands like crystal castles, justice, m.i.a., mgmt and a few others. you know, the good electronic bands. but sometimes you give in to guilty pleasures and just need to hear something that makes you wanna dance your pants off. here's a couple of songs that i'm really loving at the moment. and yes, i feel extremely guilty about listening to this.

the other night i watched her comedy central special and couldn't stop laughing the whole time. there was a certain joke i wanted to share with you but it's not on youtube so i'm gonna share a REALLY OLD video instead. this was the first joke i ever heard from her back in the day. this girl is hilarious.

friday night lights.

as some of you may know, i've recently gotten into 'friday night lights'. it's been on for 4 seasons and i'm just now watching it. just like with 'lost', i'm a late bloomer fan of this show...and just like with 'lost', this new obsession has come just before the final season. i got caught up on the entire series in one week and now i'm impatiently waiting on the 5th and final one.

i've always been a fan of the movie, haven't yet read the book (but plan to this week actually) and i'd been told by a friend about two years ago that i needed to watch the series. lately, i've been trying to catch up on so many shows that i had forgotten about this one being in my netflix queue list....until last week. i finally got around to it. oh. my. god. i can't believe i didn't watch this show sooner. first of all, it's not everyday you come across a show that has not just a good soundtrack, but a great one. like the movie, this series puts explosions in the sky to good use. other artists that have shown up in a few episodes are: wilco, the black keys, jacob dylan, sufjan stevens, spoon, the killers, heartless bastards, tony lucca, iron & wine, and they will know us by the trail of dead, band of skulls, augustana, the avett brothers and the list goes on......serisouly? this show gets every ounce of praise from me just for the music alone.

last night as i was driving home from my parents house, i was passing through homer. this is the town that my dad used to coach football in and was the high school principal of, my brothers played football there, and i did alot of growing up in that town. for a long time, we were a football family (now that we're all grown up and dad has retired, we just watch). but years ago, football was it. i know what it's like to have a dad as a head high school football coach. i know what it's like to live in a small town where football is everything. e v e r y t h i n g. and this show has nailed it dead on. i can't get over how GOOD it is and how authentic and realistic and believable every little detail is. the actors have the accents down perfectly and do an amazing job at not laying on that southern draw too thick. they sound just like people i know. the dialouge doesn't sound scripted. the situations are exactly what happens when a small town is run by high school football. i just can't get over it. i can't get over how EXACT it is. it reminds me SO much of when my dad was coaching it's ridiculous. everything from the injuries to the politics. i've seen players come to my dad for advice like he was their own father, i've been in emergency rooms after football games, and i've seen people get so absoutely insane over win/loss records that it's affected an entire town....and every single bit of that is in this show. which is probably why i love it so much. i've been there. but 'friday night lights' isn't just about football. i found myself getting so caught up in the lives of every single person that i was laughing and crying like it had all just happened to me. if you haven't seen this yet then you NEED to watch it. now.

but that's not the only reason i love this show.

when i first started watching 'fnl', i feel in love with this guy. scott porter. he plays jason street aka the sweetest guy in the world aka the boy you WISH you dated in high school....

but then i started to notice this guy.

ya'll....i can't remember the last celebrity crush i had (not counting robert pattinson)......oh my word. i can't even handle this man.

taylor kitsch plays tim riggins in the show. the rebel bad boy that comes from a broken home. everyone knows that i'm not into texas rednecks in cowboy boots...but this guy makes me wanna move to texas and live in an airstream trailor.

i mean....LOOT AT HIM.



the ONLY thing i don't like about this show is the lack of the original cast in the later seaons. being that half the cast consisted of high school students, it's understood that at some point they're going to move on and a new flock of kids will move in. i'm head over heels in LOVE with the original cast and it breaks my heart how little they are in the final seasons. but this promo for season 5 is badass. i can't wait!

von zipper known mostly for their sunglasses uses the athletes (surf, skate, snow, wake, and mx), musicians and tv personalities they sponsor as their models. veezee makes my favorite sunglasses AND they're just a really cool company that brings music, style, and the laid back lifestyle together. their ads are my absolute favorite of any other company as well. bright, colorful, busy, fun, gaudy, random, crazy, grungy, and just plain badass. they also make goggles, clothing, accessories and have recently released an rx line. check out their amazing site here(seriously...it's so freakin' sweet i did an oral report on it in webdesign class in college). they've got lots of fun stuff like music downloads, downloadable backgrounds for your desktop, interviews with their sponsored athletes, and pretty much always have contests to win some of their merch. enjoy!

seriously. that's their slogan. nixon is known for their watches but they also make headphones, clothing, bags and other accesories. the cool thing about nixon ads is the art that it's turned into. most of their ads are product shots with bright contrasting colors, but i picked a few of my favorites that represented the style of the company as a whole. nixon is all about creating products that represent your own personal style and i think that really shines through in these ads. like von zipper, nixon sponsors athletes in surf, skate and snow and also a few folks in entertainment in their ads. then they take those people and use their style to represent the nixon brands idea of personality. perfect. go look at their pretty stuff here.
