damn advertising...

so here's the thing. it amazes me how communication works...for example, this is the last thing i received from a fortune cookie. and i still have it. that cookie knew what it was talkin' about it.

granted, there's not much "design" to this one...but someone had to think of the "fortune". and i wanna know who the clever little asian was that said "hey let's tell people what to do or what will happen via this scrumptious vanilla flavored wafer."

there is debate on what country invented the first fortune cookie...but whoever it was...smart thinkin' asia. smart thinkin'. i very much enjoy your delicious fortunes. i would call this a marketing triumph for fortune cookie makers. simple. fun. it works. even if you don't eat em...you know you crack em open because you're curious. fortune cookie-1. you-0.

here's what i hate: the geico pothole.

i have no words for how much i HATE this commercial. it's not that i think it's bad, i just can't handle that voice. it reminds me of britney spears. i'm not hatin' on ole brit...i love the woman. but the sound of this pothole makes me want to cut my own ears off. brent thinks it's hilarious. and maybe i've laughed at him laughing at it...but not at the actual commercial it's self. however, it does grab my attention. damn you geico, you win again. (although, i use state farm...)

but here's where i think the marketing went all wrong: quizno's torpedo.

who in god's name: a) thought that "torpedo" was a good name for a sandwich? and b) wrote the script for these commercials?

why the hell would i want to put that in my mouth? and secondly, an oven telling the guy making my sandwich to "put it in" him is absolutely NOT going to make me want to purchase one of these. fail. epic fail.

the national craze: the snuggie.

i've said for the last year that i would never own one of these. i mean it's a bathrobe turned around backwards. but then brent told me about this website where you can get a free one...maybe it's real. maybe it's not. i guess we'll see. but like i always say "if it's free, i want it."

this commercial is AWFUL. but hilarious. first off all...these people are WAY too excited about their snuggies. like the guy using the remote as his harry potter stick to turn on the tv and raising the roof at the end. also, just noticed the old guy freezing to death at whatever sporting event is "going on" during this ad. he's miserable without his snuggie. also, the woman using the book light is obviously blind because she's using it with the lights on. but this god awful commercial has got me all excited about getting mine for free. i want it. it was a long fight. but i'm finally embracing the snuggie.

i think i'll go watch more tv now. so that america can fill my head with more ridiculous advertisements to buy it's random shit that's probably all produced in china anyway....like the fortune cookies.

  1. today i said, 'if it's got sugar in it, i want it.'

DEFINITELY reminded me of 'if it's free, i want it.'

one of my FAVORITE 2505 quotes, by far.
