ford county

the hunt for a new job is still going. although i'm finally making some progress! i spent my entire week putting my portfolio together (something i've been putting off for a year now), emailing old bosses and professors for recommendation letters, updating my resume, and setting up interviews with employment agencies because i'm desperate at this point. don't get me wrong, i'm grateful for the job i have now and it pays really well. but let's face it, it's not exactly gratifying and i need benefits (my eyes are steadily getting worse and i can't remember my last dentist appointment). yes, in a way, i've neglected myself. let a few areas go. and i've decided that is one of the reasons why i'm not at my happiest.

this week proved to be my most productive in quite some time. yesterday, i had an interview that went extremely well, although it wasn't what i expected. i went in thinking i'd get informed on a design job i was wanting but instead got informed on two company's i would be referred to if they were hiring. so that was disappointing...but not all was lost because i'm really excited about one them. the job sounds way fun so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are in need of someone.

i mean it wasn't a job interview but it IS progress and a step in the right direction. and it also got me moving on finally getting my portfolio together. so that's finally done. in the meantime, i'll keep searching and hopefully sooner rather than later, i'll land a good one. finding a design job these days is harder than most. but i WILL find one.

after i was done, i felt really great about things and decided that i'm going to try to be more proactive because i find that accomplishment leads to happiness. the problem is finding the motivation to be proactive. i was driving down youree and remembered a book i've been wanting to read so i stopped at barns & noble. i've never been a big reader for two reasons: i always fall asleep and i'm mildly dyslexic so i get really frustrated. but i've been wanting this to change. i love book stores. i always have. but i never read. this is weird i know. so in my effort to become a better and more well rounded person, i bought not one, but three books. i guess my problem is that i don't really keep up with books so i never really know what's out there, therefore i don't find anything that interests me enough to actually want to read. but this is going to change.

i'm broadening my horizons. i started ford county last night and i already love it. then im reading perks. i've actually been wanting to read this for a few years now, i just never have. lauren finally got me around to it :o) and then i'm reading downtown owl. i think i'm gonna follow up with all of klosterman's stuff. he's pretty rad.
