meh...

something really awful happened this weekend. other than that one thing, my weekend was good. went to sushi, went shopping, decorated for christmas. but then something really really bad happened. i won't tell you about it until we've completely fixed it....maybe by tomorrow. maybe. in the meantime, watch this. lissie makes me wish i could sing so i could just get up on stage and go crazy. because i would. trust me. but i can't sing. at all....damn.

p.s. i'm making some of my christmas gifts again this year. expect a DIY in the coming weeks.

the sound of 20-30 something women screaming everywhere.

**disclaimer: don't hate...you know still love it.**
i've been listening to new kids on the block all morning. why you ask? well, aside from the fact that nkotb is still awesome, i just heard that they are going on tour with backstreet boys.

um. oh my god.
i mean, i was an n*sync girl to the extreme, but i most definitely dug bsb at first.
wait wait wait....hold up a second. rewind back to when i was still wearing slap bracelets. yeah, back when the first original boy band made it's appearance. i'm pretty sure there's a new kids lunchbox still in my parents attic somewhere. i may have only been 5 at the time but i definitely rocked out to new kids in my acid wash jeans while watching their cartoon on saturday mornings and lying on the floor snuggled up in a sleeping bag with their faces plastered all over it.
oh donnie...swoon. rat tail mullet and all.

then i hit the preteen years and there were the backstreet boys. ready to fill my need for a boy band during that time growing up when boy bands are essential to every girls life.
(that is, until n*sync showed up and i died and went to boy band heaven.) but unlike most girls, i still loved bsb regardless. i know i know....scandalous right?

***let it be known to any and all reading this, that n*sync is still my favorite between the battle with bsb. that is very important. i'm still waiting for their next tour. because after all, they never officially broke up.....***

but anyway, back to my point.

due to my love for nkotb and bsb i should probably go to this tour.

pop just is't what it used to be. thankfully i'm not still stuck on it otherwise you'd unfortunately be reading the blog of a girl who listens to the jonas brothers and justin beiber. (did i spell that right?) long live the original boy bands! they'll always have a special place in my heart. can't wait to get my tickets! i'll be there with my slap bracelets on. along with the rest of the 20-30 somethings who still love their boy bands from back in the day. the originals.

i luv donnie 4 eva.

the landslide will bring you down

Two nights ago, I spent two hours writing this and then it got deleted when I added the pictures…so I’m attempting to re-write it and rest assured, it won’t be nearly as good as it was supposed to be and a multitude of things will be left out and forgotten. Dang. But anyway, here goes.

Last week I dealt with a scorching sinus headache every single day. It started out not so bad. At the beginning of the week I was still able to take meds and be okay. Last Tuesday, Wacey and Aaron called and said they were coming in town for the Eisley show which I had been wanting to attend all week but decided not to go because I wasn't feeling too spiffy. But it didn't take much convincing on their part because I really really wanted to go. I popped a couple of extra strength sinus meds and hopped my little tail on over to The Collective with the guys. It was FANTASTIC. I ran into tons of old friends from back in the day when I attended shows more frequently. I really miss those days. The venue was a new place in Shreve that I’d never been to before but it reminded me of the old coffee house shows I used to go to alot. And other than the a/c being broken, the whole night was great. Ya’ll...it was hotter than the hinges of hell in that place. So hot that I had to give up my place in the very front and go sit down in the back because it was making me nauseous. But that didn't take away from how amazing Eisley was. They are just so pretty and sound just as good live as they do on their record. I’ve been an Eisley fan for years so I was so happy to see them. But as the week progressed, so did my headache. By Friday it was debilitating. (However, that didn’t stop me from keeping my promise to workout everyday.) I woke up Saturday and actually felt like a human being so I decided to venture on over to West Monroe to visit Landon in the hospital. Poor boy had a staph infection in his knee. And a pretty bad one too. I surprised him bearing icees and we had a nice hour long visit until I decided to let him rest up and come on home. Thankfully he was out of the hospital by Monday so I baked him some cookies in honor of that. Snickerdoodles to be exact. And they were pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. It was my first time making them and I was so proud of myself that I danced around the kitchen when I pulled them out of the oven and saw that they turned out perfectly.
I’ve been really thankful for Landon lately. It’s comforting to just to have someone listen to you and be happy to do it. We’ve both been dealing with similar situations and I hope that I’ve been just as comforting to him as he has to me. Speaking of good friends, another thing I’m thankful for is old and new friends alike who have stuck by me regardless of whatever has happened with mutual parties. One sad thing about loosing a best friend is loosing all of the other friends that came with them. Fortunately, that hasn’t been my case.
A couple weeks ago, Wacey, Adam and I went to the Goo Goo Dolls show. Wacey’s mom was friends with their driver so we got free tickets. Apparently the band was waiting for us to come hang out after the show but we had already left so that didn’t happen…but Vedera opened which was a pretty sweet surprise.
But anyway, this all brings me to this week. This week started out all wrong. I woke up when I was supposed to be leaving for work. Was in such a rush that I ended up looking exactly like I felt. Which was not good. This happened 3 days in a row. Wednesday was particularly bad due to reasons that I won’t even go into because it would do no good and I’d probably just end up getting mad about it all over again…but after a quick text convo with Katie B. and dinner with mom and dad, I felt loads better. Also, my cousin called to inform me that he’s using his connections to find me another job. I found out this week that my current job is getting extended AGAIN. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful to have had it this long. It’s just not fulfilling and honestly, that’s what I need. So, the job hunt continues once again. Sometimes I just get tired and it takes a toll on me and my mood. I just have to keep reminding myself to keep calm and carry on. Sometimes, I just need to surround myself with people I love and who love me back. Sometimes you just need to talk. And sometimes, you just need to rest.

It is now Friday and I’m in higher spirits. It’s America’s birthday this weekend. I’m leaving work at noon and I won’t return until Tuesday. I plan on using the time to take full advantage of my refreshed attitude. Maybe I’ll paint. Maybe I’ll pick up my guitar for the first time in 10 years. But one this is for certain, this weekend will be filled with family, friends, twilight, bonfires, music, beer, hookah and mopeds.

jazz fest preview.

a playlist of the bands/musicians i'll be seeing this weekend at jazz fest. for mine and your own enjoyment and lauren and jenny's prep listen.

*not all songs are originals because i couldn't find them on mixpod.

*'baby please don't go' is not an original van morrison song. he actually did a cover of big joe williams' 1935 original. morrison's version was included on his greatest hits, it's amazing, and he will more than likely play it so it's included on this list. i couldn't find his version but aerosmith does an amazing job as well.

*'forever my queen' is a cover of pentagram's original. i think i like dead weather's version better. my god alison, i am in love with you. no really.

*i wasn't able to find a working version of bb king's 'lucille' on mixpod, but it is MUST HEAR so look it up and prepare yourself for the greatest blues experience of all time

monday @ 10 and before.

something is taking place. i'm not going into detail about what it is. i don't want to jinx it (which i know is stupid but still....) this is something that i've been working toward for 5 years and i'm praying for the right words to get me through it successfully. pray for me. i need this. pray that next week i'll finally be able to say that i became what i wanted to be when i grew up. and even if i don't make it through, at least it's something. something more than what i've been getting in the past. pray. hard. i need this so so SO much.

but...before monday @10, this weekend, i'm going to fulfill six dreams in two days. jazz fest, thank you for scheduling six of my favorite bands and musicians in one glorious weekend. i will enjoy you in the sunshine or the rain. i will sit on blankets with two of my loves and get lost in the blissful moments that surround me. the pretty music coming from all directions. i'm going to let it fill me up. there is little that i love more than music and friends. except maybe live music with friends.

i will see the following:

band of horses.

pearl jam.

old crow medicine show.

van morrison.

the dead weather.

and the great mr....

for years it's been my dream to see bb. i can assure you that tears will roll when i see him sunday. i believe that it is a great blessing to have the opportunity to see such an iconic musician.

i have friends who are taking leaps and bounds to improve their lives. this is inspiring to me. and jenny and lauren, i am speaking of you and your recent posts.

dear jenny, to simplify is to cleanse. and that is a healthy habit that i am taking from you and incorporating into my own life. making purchases based on only things that you love and don't just like is what i believe to be the key to preventing buyers remorse. thank you for teaching me that.

dear lauren, i want you to not dwell or worry on making the right decision, because in fact, whatever decision you do make, was meant to be. and it is all going to work out the way it should. as for relaxing and surrounding yourself with happy things, that is something that i try to practice daily. thank you for reminding me to do that today.

right now, i am growing. and healing. and making necessary changes. i am learning. i am practicing. i am teaching. i am waiting. and i am genuinely, not temporarily, happy for the first time in much too long.

"everything is going the way it should. if it were supposed to be going another way it would."
